Is it farz on a person to marry a girl whose father has done IHSAAN on him. I mean one of my very close relative just guided me with my studies and career, and also helped me get a good job. If I am very successful by worldly means and he is also one of the major factors behind that, and if he asks me to marry his daughter, do I have to marry her? And if I dont marry her, is it a major sin? the reason for not marrying her is that, first of all, I do not have any feelings towards her at all, and plus her unislamic lifestyle, and other qualities which I dont like. I just want to marry a girl who is pious, very decent and I feel attracted towards her so that I could also take good care of her and love her. If I marry someone against my will, I do not think I would be happy in a long term relationship. I kind of feel overwhelmed with the emotional pressure. I love that guy, and I can do anything, except marrying his daughter. Further more, I consulted my mom, and she is happy with what I think. Please guide me with this matter as soon as possible.
In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, The Most Merciful.
As-salaamu `alaykum wa-ramatullahi wa-barakatuh.
If a person made ihsaan (favour) on you, and he requested you to marry his daughter, you should consider his request especially in view of his favour to you. You should respond stating that you will make istikhara and mashwara with your seniors and decide. In this way you will also be expressing your appreciation by considering the proposal. If you decline the proposal, that will be based on istikhara and mashwara which he will understand. It is not compulsory to marry the daughter of the person who made ihsaan on you and neither is it a sin not to marry her. However, when dealing with such issues, one must be mature and diplomatic.
And Allah Ta`ala Knows Best.
