Where to place the gaze in salaah

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by AnswersToFatawa

Assalam alaykum

Where should I place my gaze in salaah

Answer:

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

It is desirable to fix the gaze

  • During qiyām (standing up) – at the place of sajdah
  • During ruku – towards the feet
  • During sajdah – towards the nose
  • During qā`idah (sitting) – towards the lap
  • During salaam – towards the shoulders

This is due to the following reasons

  1. This was the practice of the Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) and the Sahabah
  2. It’s a means to create devotion in salaah

And Allah Ta`ala knows best
