Must we wash the deceased twice if she died while menstruating?

If a woman dies while in a state of menstruation, is it obligatory to wash her twice: once to remove the ritual impurity of menstruation, and once as the washing that is required upon death?

Answer:
In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful

Someone who dies only needs to be washed once, even if they were in a state of sex-related impurity (janaba) or menstrual impurity. This is the position of our school. Imam Nawawi said in al-Majmu`, “This is the position of all scholars except for Hasan al-Basri, who held that the deceased must be washed twice. Ibn al-Mundhir said that no one else ever held this position.”
