Kashf and Ilham

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by ShariahBoard.org

What are the different types of kashf. Is Kashf available only to the muttaqeen. Some individuals can see the Qarin; is this kashf. What does the Qarin look like does it always occupy the left side of the human body. Some individuals do not come in gatherings because they always complain of other people (perhaps religious) staring at them angrily even when no major sins are committed currently by those individuals. With Kashf one can see other people’s sins if so in what form of visualization, do they see the actual event or they just feel the sin. Surprisingly it is very accurate. Is this Ilham but Ilham is only from Allah? Are there Aayat in the Quran wherein ALLAH SWT says that by His leave (Ilham) humans can see past sins of others or this is prediction/calculation of those individuals. I would appreciate specific answer and not general.

The sufi’s divide ‘kashf’ into two different categories. One is called ‘kauni’ and the other is ‘Ilahi’. The first one is about unraveling the secrets of this world and the second one is about understanding the secrets of Allah’s instructions and orders. It is not necessary that ‘kashf’ happens to only pious people it can happen to anybody, as a matter of fact even to non-Muslims and insane people. It can also happen to animals and it could be a type of craziness.
