Following an Imam who does’nt have a Bread

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by ShariahBoard.org

If we pray behind a imam who doesn’t have beard, then will it be makrooh? Do we need to worry about if imam has beard or not, or if he wear his pant below his ankle (takhnu) or not. or we just should pray? Because when some one is made imam he is made by Allah’s decision. So should we criticize about imam and go to another mosque? or we can pray behind him? Because most of the Somalian brothers, who follow shafii madhab, don’t care about beard or wearing pants above ankle (takhnu) that much. So do we need to go to another mosque? or we can pray behind a imam whatever imam it is?

If there is a mosque the leader of which is a pious person and avoids all the major sins than you should go to that mosque. We should be careful as to who we pray behind, it is not that just because somebody leads that they are endowed by Allah to do that position. However, many things that are happening in the world are happening by the order of Allah. Can anyone say that a nonbeliever is a nonbeliever because Allah made him that way so we should follow him too? Similarly, just because a tyrant is nominated it does not mean that we should succumb to him and follow him completely. We would have a responsibility on ourselves and of those people who deal with us such that if somebody is nominated unjustly than it is our responsibility to fix it and if it’s not fixable than we should try to do something else. Therefore we should be mindful that we have a leader who has a proper beard and whose trouser is above his ankles, and someone who is not involved in major sins.
