Praying while drowsy

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Qibla.com

Answered by Shaykh Faraz Rabbani

Sometimes when praying taraweeh I get very drowsy so in order to maintain concentration I remove my gaze from the place of prostration to the wall in front of me. is this valid?

Answer:
In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful

Walaikum assalam,

1. It is recommended to lower one’s gaze in prayer; thus, not doing so does not affect validity and is not sinful.

2. If you are very drowsy, it is best to rest first, and pray when less tired within the time (in the case of obligatory prayers), as the Prophet (Allah bless him & give him peace) instructed.

And Allah alone gives success.

Walaikum assalam,

Faraz Rabbani
