Answered by Mufti Mohamed Umer Ibrahim
But now, could you tell me what’s the ruling about stuttering during recitation of qur’an al karim during salah? Because I stutter since I’m four years and I’ve read on your site, that one should recite in the loud prayers, that one is able to hear oneself. Before I know that, I recited in a hushed whisper, and no stutter. Now I recite with a clear voice but I stutter in every prayer. Is it better for me to recite silent or to whisper again or something else? And is there any special du’a for people that stutter? And by the way, is there Islamic knowledge about what is responsible for the stuttering, like djinns or a curse or something else?
In the Name of Allah, Most Merciful and Compassionate. May His abundant blessing and most perfect of peace be on His Beloved Prophet, the best of creation, and his family, companions and followers.
You should not worry about your stuttering and carry on reciting the Quran the way you are doing. You will be getting double the reward because of the extra effort you’re putting in:
‘A’ishah, may Allah be pleased with her, reported: Allah’s Messenger (may peace be upon him) said: One who is proficient in the Qur’an is associated with the noble, upright, righteous angels; and he who falters in it, and finds it difficult for him, will have a double reward.
