A friend of mine has not been feeling herself for the past 2 years or so. She gets angry over small things and feels a ”presence” around her, which scares her. She did not know what the cause was, but recently a woman came to see her parents and told them about their daughter (i.e. my friend), who she has never met, and told them about her character and personality and other personal details and that her problems were due to someone doing black magic on her and that she did not come to any greater harm because of her worship of Allah (swt). I have a number of questions with regards to this.

Nothing good nor bad takes place except by the will and decree of Allah Most High. Even if all the satans of the world from the biggest to the meanest assembled to hurt a gnat it would not take place unless Allah Most High decreed it. Therefore stand fast on the commands of Allah Most High and ask Him relief of any duress together with following His commands regarding this particular situation as revealed to the Prophet, upon him peace, namely to recite Surat al-Baqara especially its last three ayats and the Mu`awwidhat for protection (last three Suras). The du`a is in the Adhkar under ruqya and/or ta`wiz and is: A`udhu billahi wa bikalimaatihi al-tammaat. As for the second question: knowledge of sihr or magic does not indicate that one practices it since many of the awliya had and do have knowledge that pertains to it and how to deflect its harm with the help of Allah Most High. This is evident also when there are no dunya ties involved and when the interaction is for the sake of Allah and He knows best. Was-Salam,
