Pre-Digging Graves in Muslim cemetery in America

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Qibla.com

Answered by Shaykh Ilyas Patel

Is it permissible for a small Muslim cemetery in America to utilize a machine to pre-dig a number of graves at once due to the inability to continuously procure the equipment on a short notice for each death in the community. I have been requested to check on this by the Islamic Funeral Services of Virginia located in Richmond, Virginia. USA

I hope you are fine and in the best of health and iman.

It is absolutely fine to pre-dig graves as you mention. It was also a practice of some of the righteous of the ummah throughout history to pre-dig their graves in order for them to prepare and kept aware of its preparation.

And Allah alone knows best
