Burying Hair and Nails after Clipping

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Mahmoodiyah

Question:

Assalamualaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuhu

Hello brothers, I read in a Hadith that it is Sunnah if you clip your nails or hair to bury it.  In Baihaqi there is a Hadith that when Rasoolullah (S.A.W.) buried his hair or nails maybe he used to say:  “I am not allowed to make it overpowered by sorcery” or something like that, I do not know the Hadith exactly anymore but it was like this.  Do you have the Du’aa in Arabic or Latin Arabic or otherwise is there another Du’aa or ‘Amal to protect your nails, hair, etc.  Please help me!

The Hadith you refer to in your question is mentioned in the Kitaab, Al-Mughni li Ibne Qudamah. It is reported that Nabi (S.A.W.) instructed that the hair and nails should be buried and further said: “The sorcery of man will not interfere with it.” (Al-Mughni li Ibne Qudamah, Vol. 1, Page 119)

It is appropriate for a person to bury his/her hair and nails after cutting them, however there is no harm in not doing so.

We have not come across any Du’aa relating to the protection of the nails and hair against sorcery. The A’maal mentioned in the Hadith above is sufficient and should be adopted.
