Shaving the hair & clipping the nails for the Haaji performing Qurbani

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by TheMufti.com

Q. During Hajj, I was told that it is Mustahab to shave the hair and cut the nails before entering into the state of Ihraam but if I am doing Qurbani, I should not shave my hair and cut my nails. Please clarify.

A. If a person performing Hajj intends to perform Qurbani, then he/she should still avoid shaving any hair or cutting any nails before entering into the state of Ihraam of Hajj during the first ten days or on the 8th of Zul-Hijjah.

The ruling of it being preferable (Mustahab) to shave the hair and cut the nails before entering into the state of Ihraam does not apply to one performing Hajj and intending Qurbani. They should not shave their hair or cut their nails until their Qurbani animal is slaughtered/until they exit the state of Ihraam (Fataawa Darul Uloom Zakariyyah 3/370)
