Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by HadithAnswers.com

Question

What is the reference for this du’a?

Answer

Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (radiyallahu ‘anhu) reported that Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) would say:

Translation: O Allah! Benefit me with that which You have taught me and teach me that which will benefit me and increase me in knowledge. All praise belongs to Allah in all conditions and I see Allah’s refuge from the punishment of the Fire.

(Sunan Ibn Majah, Hadith: 3833. Also see: Hadith: 251)

Imam Tirmidhi (rahimahullah) has also recorded a shorter version of this du’a. See here.

And Allah Ta’ala Knows best.
