Question
Please verify this narration?
Allah’s Messenger used to kiss me while observing fast; and who among you can control his desire as the Messenger of Allah could control his desire?
Answer
Imam Muslim (rahimahullah) has recorded this Hadith. The Hadith is therefore authentic.
Sayyidah ‘Aaishah (radiyallahu ‘anha) reported: “Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) used to kiss me while fasting. Which one of you can control his desire as Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) could control his desire?”
(Sahih Muslim, Hadith: 1106)
Imams Bukhari and Muslim (rahimahumallah) have also recorded other similar versions of this Hadith with additional wording.
(Sahih Bukhari, Hadith: 1927, Sahih Muslim, Hadith: 1106)
Note: The Hadith clearly states that Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) had control over his desires. Therefore, the commentators explain that if a person fears stirring up his desires then he should not engage in kissing. Some commentators have also explained that a youngster should not kiss his spouse when fasting, but an older person could do so. (Refer: Fathul Bari, Hadith: 1927, Fathul Mulhim, Hadith: 2548)
Kindly refer to a Mufti/Darul Ifta for a fatwa on this issue.
Furthermore, some types of kissing may even invalidate the fast.
And Allah Ta’ala Knows best.
