Another narration on sneezing when speaking

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by HadithAnswers.com

Question

العطسة عند الحديث شاهد عدل

Sneezing when speaking is a sign that it refers to the truth

Answer

These words are recorded in Bahrul Fawaid; Ma’anil Akhbar of Abu Bakr Muhammad ibn Abi Ishaq Al Kalabadhi (Demise: 384 A.H).

(Bahrul Fawaid; Ma’anil Akhbar, pg. 51)

I have not come across the credibility/lack thereof of a few narrators in this chain. This chain also has another reason for weakness (tadlis).

‘Allamah Munawi (rahimahullah) has referenced these words to Abu Ya’la. I could not locate this narration in the copy of his Musnad which is currently available.

(Refer: Faydul Qadir, Hadith: 5695. Also see: Musnadul Firdaws, Hadith: 4237)

See another version of the Hadith here as well as the differing verdicts of the Muhaddithun.

And Allah Ta’ala Knows best.
