Masruq (rahimahullah) explains the sin for speaking lies

عن مسروق رحمه الله قال: ليس شيء أعظم عند الله من الكذب

Answer

Imam Ibn Abid Dunya (rahimahullah) has recorded this statement of Masruq (rahimahullah).

(As Samt Wa Adabul Lisan, Hadith: 554. Also see: Ithafus Sadah Al Muttaqin, vol. 7 pg. 522)

Translation

There is no greater [sin] in the sight of Allah Ta’ala than speaking lies.

And Allah Ta’ala Knows best.
