Du’a for protection from sudden death

Is there any Hadith which states that Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wasallam) made du’a for protection from sudden death?

Answer:

In a lengthy Hadith, Sayyiduna ‘Abdullah ibn ‘Amr (radiyallahu’anhuma) reports that Rasulullah (sallallahu’alayhi wasallam) would seek refuge from [among others things]; sudden death.

(Musnad Ahmad, vol. 2 pg. 171 and vol. 4 pg. 204, Al-Mu’jamul Kabir, Hadith: 14751 and others. See Majma’uz Zawaid, vol. 2 pg. 318)

Note: The exact words of this du’a are not mentioned in this narration.

One may recite [for example]:

Allahumma inni a’udhu bika min mawtil fuja-ah.

O Allah! I seek your refuge from sudden death.

Also see Kanzul ‘Ummal, Hadith: 3786 and the last du’a in Munajat Maqbul of Moulana Ashraf ‘Ali Thanwi (rahimahullah).

The last word (which is in bold) can also be pronounced as: Faj-ah.

And Allah Ta’ala Knows best,
