A du’a asking Allah Ta’ala for patience and to be grateful

Please authenticate the following supplication for me:

Allahummaj ‘alni saburan waj’alni shakuran waj’alni fi ‘ayni saghiran wa fi a’ayunin nasi kabira

O Allah, make me patient and grateful to You and make me look small in my own eyes and great in the sight of others.

Answer

Imam Bazzar (rahimahullah) has recorded this du’a of Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) on the authority of Sayyiduna Buraydah (radiyallahu ‘anhu).

(Musnad Bazzar, Hadith: 4439)

‘Allamah Haythami (rahimahullah) has declared one of the narrators weak. However, Imam Bazzar (rahimahullah) was of the view that his narrations are sound.

(Majma’uz Zawaid, vol. 10 pg. 181)

The du’a is suitable to recite.

(Also see: Al Hisnul Hasin, pg. 167)

And Allah Ta’ala Knows best.
