Replying to Jazaakallah Khaira

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by DarulUloomTT.net

Q. What is the masnoon dua that a person says in reply of Jazak Allahu Khaira?

A. In reply to ‘Jazaakallah Khaira’, (which means ‘may Allah reward you’), one can say ‘wa iyyaka’ (and you as well) or one may say ‘wa jazaka’ – and may He reward you. These are all allowed and permissible to say.

With respect to that which is evident in the hadith, it is reported that a companion said to the Prophet (S.A.S), ‘Jazaakallahu khairan Ya Rasoolullah’ – May Allah reward you with goodness O Messenger of Allah’. In response to this the Prophet (S.A.S) said, ‘Wa Antum Fa Jazaakumullahu khairan – ‘and you also, May Allah reward you with goodness’. (Sahih ibn Hibban). Based on the narration, this would be the best reply to give when someone says to you ‘Jazaakallahu khaira’.

And Allah knows best.
