Question:

Salam,

I would like to know if the following job would be permissible to do or not.

Company: 1st Central

Main responsibilities

• Production of business analysis reports

• Maintenance and writing of analysis programs written in SAS, RADAR, and other software packages

• Build predictive models using SAS, EMBLEM, and other software packages

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم

In The Name Of Allah, The Most-Merciful, The Most Kind

Answer:

1st Central is a car insurance company that is based in the U.K. Its income is raised from the premiums charged to its customers.

By working as someone who writes programs or software to be used for insurance purposes, this will be like assisting in sin.

Allah (swt) says:

وَتَعَاوَنُوا عَلَى الْبِرِّ وَالتَّقْوَىٰ ۖ وَلَا تَعَاوَنُوا عَلَى الْإِثْمِ وَالْعُدْوَانِ ۚ

“And cooperate in righteousness and piety, but do not cooperate in sin and aggression.” (Surah al-Ma’idah, Verse 2)

Furthermore, this is not considered halal money because insurance is not permitted due to the riba (interest), gambling, and deception. Since it is apparent that most, if not all the income from this job will be sourced from haram means, it will not be permitted to work in this company.
