Is chewing gum permissible during a fast?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by DarulIftaBirmingham

Question:

Is it permissible to chew on chewing-gum during the fasting period?

Answer:

In The Name Of Allah, The Most-Merciful, The Most Kind

Chewing gum which has sugar and artificial flavourings inside will break the Fast. This is because the flavourings dissolve in the saliva and enter the stomach. But if the gum does not contain any substance that will dissolve and enter the stomach, then it does not break the fast.
