Loving fellow believers and not taunting them

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by HadithAnswers.com

Are the following narration sahih?

1. Sayyiduna Mu’adh (radiyallahu ‘anhu) narrates that Muhammad (sallallahu ‘alayhi wasallam) said:

‘Whoever taunts a brother (Muslim) with a sin (which the Muslim has committed), will not die until he (the taunter) commits the same sin.’

2. Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (radiyallahu ‘anhu) narrates that Muhammad (sallallahu ‘alyhi wasallam) said:

‘A Mu’min (Believer) is the repository of love. There is no goodness in a man who does not have love for anyone nor does anyone love him.’

Answer

1. The first Hadith is recorded by Imam Tirmidhi (rahimahullah) in his Sunan and is classified as sound (hasan).

(Sunan Tirmidhi, Hadith: 2505 & Mukhtasarul Maqasidil Hasanah, Hadith: 1057. Also see: Targhib, vol.3 pg.310, Sharhul Ihya, vol.7 pg.504 & Al-Mudawi, Hadith: 3462)

2. The second Hadith is recorded by Imam Ahmad (rahimahullah) on the authority of Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (vol.2 pg.400) as well as other Sahabah (radiyallahu’anhum)

This Hadith is authentic.
