Who to Vote for

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by CouncilofUlama.co.za

Q: 1) On what basis should we elect MPs in a democratic country if there is no Muslim canditate participating in elections? Is being a Muslim only criteria for a candidate to be elected by Muslims, or does his charecter also matter?

2) What is the Islamic ruling on one who  supports and votes in favour of a criminal, corrupt party/candidate Muslim or non-Muslim?

A: Ulama have written lenghty treatise on this subject and the crux of it all is to vote for the Party that would be most sympathetic to the Muslims, a party which would grant Muslims freedom of religion.
