Laminated Quraan and Wudhu

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Askmufti.co.za

Q: If a page of the Quraan is laminated can it be held without wudhu? I have a problem with discharge as a result I am unable to keep my wudhu for very long.

A. It will not be permissible to touch the laminated page without Wudhu because the plastic is now attached to the page. If you qualify as a Ma’thoor then it will be permissible to touch and hold the Qur’aan if you’ve made Wudhu at the start of the Salaah time.  If you are not Ma’thoor then this law will not apply; however, you may hold and touch the Qur’aan with a cloth, etc.

A Ma’thoor is one who cannot keep his or her Wudhu long enough to make a four Rakaats Salaah.
