Talaq Raj’ee

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Askimam.org

“I am givig her ONE talaq” – just to clarify the matter, I repeated the sentence twice. Would it count two talaq?

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh

You state that you repeated the statement “I am giving her one Talaaq” twice in the statement. We take note of the word one. If you intended to issue divorce to your wife and your second statement was meant to merely affirm the one divorce, then that will constitute one talaaq e Raj’ee (revocable divorce).  The implication thereof being that you can revoke the divorce issued to your wife during her Iddat period. If you do not revoke the divorce, then the Nikaah will terminate upon termination of your wife’s iddat.
