Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Albalagh.net

Quran Khawani

By Mufti Ebrahim Desai

Q.) It is a normal practice here that people invite others for Quran khwani at their home, shops etc. and after the completion some food is given to them. What does Shariah says about Quran khwani and whether eating on this occasion is good? Should we call it Bid’ah?

A.) As stated, “it is a normal practice”, clearly indicates the practice as a custom. Undoubtedly, reciting the Qur’an and feeding people are acts of virtue but to perform any permissible act to fulfil a custom is Bid’ah.
