Multiple destinations of travel and the laws of a traveller (Musaafir)

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by TheMufti.com

Q. I just wanted to make sure, if a person made intention of going to stanger from durban for 10 days but during the stay they travelled to eshowe for 1 day and came back to stanger the same day, will a person remain a musaffir or would not because the intention was to stay in stanger? Jazakallah khair

A. In principle, if a person intends to travel for a distance of 78 kilometers or more from a location to a destination and such a person does not intend to stay at any destination for 15 days or more, then such a person will be categorized as a Musaafir (traveler).

In the enquired situation, the following is understood.

a) Your travel distance is 78 Kilometers and more from Durban to Stanger

b) Your travel distance is 78 Kilometers and more from Stanger to Eshowe

c) You have not intended to stay in Stanger or Eshowe for 15 days or more

Accordingly, you would be categorized as a Musaafir (traveler) in Stanger and Eshowe and all the laws of a Musaafir (traveler) will apply.
