Husband asks Ghareeb Nawaz when he needs help or if something goes wrong. Is this shirk?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by ShariahBoard.org

Assalamualaikum,

I am married for the last 4 years to an Indian Muslim. I am from Pakistan.  My concern is my husband doesn’t offer his Namaz at all. In 4 years he only prayed 4 times that was Eid prayer. Secondly whenever he needs some help or is in trouble he always asks from Ghareeb Nawaz. I mean he seeks Dua from Ghareeb Nawaz. Like he says that his problem will be solved by Ghareeb Nawaz. Is it shirk ?

And what is the ruling for me if my husband is Mushrik? I don’t feel comfortable with him in this way.

الجواب وباللہ التوفیق

Seeking help from someone other than Allaah Ta’alaa while seeking help should be particular with Allaah Ta’alaa only, e.g., seeking help from someone and asking one’s needs considering him to be in total control or with the final authority or fulfiller of needs or that he listens if he is called upon, and he comes to help, having such belief and seeking help is شرک (ascribing partners) and Haraam. The Nikah with such a person also breaks. Ask him about his beliefs and then again ask for the Fatwa.
