Question
What does it mean that Allah Most High is the Lord of everything? What does everything consist of?
Answer
In the Name of Allah, the Most Merciful and Compassionate
The word ‘Lord’ or ‘Rabb’ in Arabic is a very deep word. It comes from the root letters ra ba ba, which means the possessor and creator. With this meaning in mind, we understand the following verses:
Allah Most High says, “All praise is for Allah—Lord of all worlds” [Quran, 1:1]
Allah Most High says, “Say, ˹O Prophet,˺ “Should I seek a lord other than Allah while He is the Lord of everything?” No one will reap except what they sow. No soul burdened with sin will bear the burden of another. Then to your Lord is your return, and He will inform you of your differences.” [Quran; 6:164]
Allah is the Creator of All
Understanding the word ‘Lord’ to mean creator and possessor clarifies the meaning of Allah being the Lord of everything.
Allah Most High says, “And Allah created you and all that you do.” [Qur’an; 37:96]
Thus everything tangible things, every atom of matter, every motion, every choice, every color, every deed, etc… is brought into existence by Allah Most High alone. Thus He is the Lord (i.e. Creator) or everything.
Hope this helps
