Is There Any Difference in Performing Wudu from a Tap or from a Vessel?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Seekersguidance.org

Question: Is there any difference in performing wudu from a tap or from a vessel? Is rubbing necessary when making wudu from a tap?

Answer:

In the Name of Allah, the Most Merciful and Compassionate,

Making wudu from a tap or from a vessel are both permissible, and neither entails any intrinsic superiority over the other.

However, if one intends to use the vessel because it was the practice of the Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace), or because it will help one not to wastewater, then one will be rewarded for such intentions.

However, using the vessel may aid one in conserving water and not wasting, which is sinful if excessive.

Rubbing or ‘dalk’ in Arabic is not obligatory regardless of whether one is performing wudu from a tap or a vessel. In the Hanafi school guiding the water with one’s hand and rubbing is an emphasized sunna. [Shurunbulali, Maraqi al -Falah]

I hope this helps,
Allah knows best.
