How to Respond to the Call of the Dawn Prayer?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Seekersguidance.org

Answered by Ustadh Tabraze Azam

Question: Assalam alaikum,

What should one respond to “Assalatu khayr min nawm” (prayer is better than sleep) during the call to the Fajr prayer?

Answer: Wa alaikum assalam wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh,

I pray that this message finds you well, insha’Allah.

The sunna is to respond by saying, “sadaqta wa barirta,” “sadaqta wa bi’l haqqi nataqta,” or “ma sha’ Allahu kan wa ma lam yasha’ lam yakun.”

[Shurunbulali, Maraqi al-Falah, with Tahtawi’s marginalia]

And Allah alone knows best.
