Is Zakat due on savings of Masjid?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Qibla.com

Answered by Shaykh Faraz Rabbani

There are various projects and bank accounts of Masjid i.e. Masjid maintenance and employ salary account, graveyard account, general relief account, Zakat account and school account etc. Money in all the accounts comes from donations.

Is Masjid liable to pay Zakat on all these accounts or not?

In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful

Walaikum assalam wa rahmatullah,

I pray this finds you in the best of health and spirits.

There is no zakat on charitable institutions and endowments, such as mosques.
