Delaying the sending of Zakat funds

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Qibla.com

Answered by Shaykh Faraz Rabbani

We collect zakat money and send it to Tarim. But sometimes we wait for a while before sending collected money in order for us to collect a bigger amount is this allowed, or do we have to send the money immediately?

Answer:
In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful

In the Name of Allah, Most Merciful and Compassionate

May Allah’s peace and blessings be upon His Messenger Muhammad, his folk, companions, and followers

Walaikum assalam wa rahmatullah,

There is nothing wrong with such slight delays in sending collected zakat funds.

Zakat is supposed to be given without undue delay, and delaying it unduly without excuse is sinful, according to the relied upon position. [Haskafi/Tumurtashi, al-Durr al-Mukhtar `ala Tanwir al-Absar] An undue delay is delaying payment beyond a year. [Ibn Abidin, Radd al-Muhtar]

Delays that are reasonable, or for a greater benefit, are not blameworthy.

And Allah alone gives success. May Allah assist you in all good. May He reward you generously, and grant you success beyond imagination.

Wassalam,

Faraz Rabbani
