The Ruling of Ties in General

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Qibla.com

Answered by Shaykh Faraz Rabbani

What about synthetic silk? Most ties are made from synthetic silk. What about ties in general, even if they are not made from silk (e.g. made from polyester)? Is it permissible to wear them?

Answer:
In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful

In the Name of Allah, Most Compassionate, Most Merciful,

There is nothing impermissible about ties in general, [This ruling was mentioned by Mufti Taqi Usmani in a recorded Q & A session of his that I have. I heard this from some Damascene Hanafis, too.] though, of course it is superior to avoid the dress of the unbelievers even if there is no imitation of them (=such that it is only worn by them, or worn with the intention of being ‘like them’ because one holds their ways to be better or more sophisticated). Synthetic silk is not haram. But one should make sure, in order to avoid the harm of falling into the haram.
