Muslim newspaper editor publishing adverts of stores that sell haraam products

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Muftionline.co.za

Q: I am a publisher of magazines and have now entered into newspaper publishing. It is owned by me and I am the editor. There are businesses that wish to have their adverts appear in our publications. E.g. Bluff Meat Supply (they sell haraam meat) / Tops at Spar (they sell alcohol) / and the people that claim to “bring back lost love” and other claims to the supernatural.

Is it allowed for me to publish these kinds of adverts? My advertising sales staff are up in arms about me not taking on the adverts as it directly impacts their commission earnings. Please advise

Bismillaah

A: Abstain from adverts that are of a doubtful character.

And Allah Ta’ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
