Is it halal or haram to drink alcohol in medicines?

Assalamwalaykum, my ques. is many medicines contains alcohol like cough syrup, is it halal or haram?

Answer

(Fatwa: 649/649/M=1431)

Use of alcohol prepared from haram ingredients is unlawful, but usually in India alcohol is prepared from lawful ingredients; therefore it is not haram. And the use of medicine which contains such alcohol is also not unlawful.
