Car Insurance: A Legal Requirement in My Country – What Now?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Muftionline.co.za

Q: I live in a country where it is a legal requirement from the government for all cars to be insured. What should I do in this situation?

Bismillaah

A: If taking out car insurance in your country is mandatory from the side of the government, it will be permissible for you to take out car insurance as well as claim from the insurance company at the time of an accident. However, when claiming, it will only be permissible for you to take back the amount that you paid to the insurance company in your monthly premiums.

And Allah Ta’ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
