A river in Jannah called ‘Rajab’?

Question

Is the following Hadith authentic?

Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said:

إن في الجنة نهرًا يقال له: رجب, أشد بياضًا من اللَّبن, وأحلى من العسل, مَن صام يومًا من رجب، سقاه الله من ذلك النهر

“Indeed, there is a river in Jannah that is called ‘Rajab’. It is whiter than milk and sweeter than honey. Whoever fasts a day in Rajab, Allah Ta’ala will provide him with the water of that river.”

Answer

Imam Bayhaqi (rahimahullah) has recorded this narration on the authority of Sayyiduna Anas ibn Malik (radiyallahu ‘anhu).

(Fadailul Awqat, Hadith: 8)

However ‘Allamah Dhahabi (rahimahullah) and other Muhaddithun have declared the Hadith baseless. The Hadith is therefore not suitable to quote.

And Allah Ta’ala Knows best
