Celebrating Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, etc.

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by DarulUloomTT.net

Q. I have abstained from celebrating Valentine’s day / wishing Happy Birthdays / greeting a non-Muslim on their religious occasion, etc. I am also of the perception that we cannot wish our Mothers and Fathers on this day. Can you please provide some guidance since I am confused as I see some brothers celebrating this day?

A. Mother’s day, Father’s Day etc. are from the traditions and culture of non Muslims, hence, it is not permissible to observe these occasions. Islam has its own unique way of life which has been perfected and completed by Allah, and has not allowed us to duplicate and follow the customs and practices of the non-Muslims.

Muslims must therefore refrain from celebrating these occasions and adhere to the teachings of the Sunnah of the Prophet (SAS).

And Allah knows best.
