Is Eating Mushrooms Allowed

Answered by: Maulana Muhammad Asadullah Anwar Adam

Question:

Is eating mushrooms allowed?

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful

Answer:

There are 3 types of mushrooms, Edible mushrooms, Toxic mushrooms, and Psychoactive mushrooms.

Edible mushrooms are Halal because nothing renders them haram.

Toxic mushrooms are haram because self-harm is not allowed in Islam because Allah has stated ” and do not throw [yourselves] with your [own] hands into destruction ” [1]

Psychoactive mushrooms are haram because everything that causes intoxication is considered haram in Islam. [2]

Only Allah knows best
