Ear piercings are allowed due to them being allowed during the time of the Prophet 
, nose piercings are allowed due to the ‘urf (custom of a particular environment). (Summarised from Raddul Muhtar)
Everything besides that one should avoid according to contemporary scholars due to it resembling mutilation of the body and resembling immoral people.
