Penalty for Breaking Oath

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by CouncilofUlama.co.za

Q: A person took an oath; he made a nazar, but broke it before completing it. How does he discharge the penalty?

A: If he broke the oath then he needs to pay kaffaarah. The kaffaarah for breaking an oath is to feed 10 poor people (or give each one of them the equivalent of sadaqatul fitr) or to clothe ten poor people.

And Allah knows best
