Is it permissable for a man not to get married?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Askimam.org

I am a very shy person, i feel that i would not be able to keep my wife happy both physically and on a day to day basis by making conversation etc.. so much so that she could become bored and forced to go with another man. There is no danger of yielding to my desires as my nafs is well controlled. i feel i will be able to serve Allah (swt) better on my own. In such a condition is it possible for me not to get married?

Answer

It is permissible for a male not to marry if he can contain his desires
without committing any immoral act. However, Nikah is a great sunnah of our
prophet (S.A.W). You stated that you are shy and fear not being able to
fulfil your wife’s rights. Being shy is not a valid excuse for not marrying
as Rasulullah (SAW) was more shy than a most modest woman. The fear that you
have of not fulfilling your wife’s rights is a natural one which will be
overcome after marriage.
