Something is wrong with me

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Askimam.org

I lost my sleep and apetite over 6 months ago. I have been very worried since then as i have felt changes in my brain and body. i feel that i wont get better and will die very soon. im reflecting back on  my life to see what i may have done wrong so i can put it right.

Is this the correct thing to do in this situation? the doctors dont know whats wrong with me. ve tried antidepressants and sleeping pills but nothing works.

I feel i must be being punished for my past sins as i have a strange character. i dont say a lot im always criticizing everyone especially muslims on their attitude these days. I have not declared rental income to hmrc for may years now. i have said thins about people behind their backs. i did  sincere tauba back in 2017 and wanted to change my life and thats when my health plummeted.

im doing everything like praying, reading kaza namaz, reading quran, stopped saying negative things but im still the same. i just feel like im going to end up in hell and i get all kinds of negative thoughts about the future.

can you advise.

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

Brother in Islam,

We sorry to read about your condition. May Allah grant you complete cure. Aameen.
Your present condition is a test from Allah Ta’ala.
 Allah Ta’ala says:

Translation: Be sure we shall test you with something of fear and hunger, some loss in goods or lives or the fruits (of your toil), but give glad tidings to those who patiently persevere. Who say, when afflicted with calamity: “To Allah We belong, and to Him is our return.” Such are they on whom are blessings from their Lord, and mercy. Such are the rightly guided. (Al-Baqarah: 155-157)

Rasulullah Sallallahu Alaihi Wa Sallam gave us hope in the following hadeeth,

Translation: Jabir Radhi Allahu anhu reported that Rasulullah Sallallahu Alaihi Wa Sallam said: There is a remedy for every malady, and when the remedy is applied to the disease it is cured with the permission of Allah, the Exalted and Glorious. (Muslim) [i]

You should continue exploring medical avenues to have yourself cured.

Be determined and positive. While you adopt all possible means to cure yourself, be patient, and turn to Allah with Salaah, Dua’a & Zikr. [ii]

Allah Ta’ala says

Translation: . . . but give glad tidings to those who patiently persevere. Who say, when afflicted with calamity: “To Allah We belong, and to Him is our return.” Such are they on whom are blessings from their Lord, and mercy. Such are the rightly guided. (Al-Baqarah: 155-157)

Translation: O you who believe! Seek assistance through patience and Salah.
Indeed Allah with those who are the patient ones. (Al-Baqarah: 153)

Translation: Rasulullah Sallallahu Alaihi Wa Sallam said, “There is no difficulty that happens to a Muslim except that Allah removes a sin because of it even if a thorn pricks him and even to that degree.” (Saheeh al-Bukhari)[iii]

I ask you (O Allah) everything that leads to your mercy, and your tremendous forgiveness, enrichment in all good, and freedom from all sin. Do not leave a sin of mine (O Allah), except that you forgive it, nor any concern except that you create for it an opening, nor any need in which there is your good pleasure except that you fulfill it, O Most Merciful!
