Answer

In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful

Assalaamu `alaykum waRahmatullahi Wabarakatuh

It will be permissible to move in order to fill a gap in the row in front of you or to the left or right of you. However, whilst moving to fill the gap, it will be preferable to take a step and then pause and thereafter take another step.

( و ) يكره أيضا ( أن يخطو خطوات بغير عذر ) أما إذا كان بعذر فلا يكره كما إذا سبقه الحدث فمشي للوضوء وكما لو مشي لقتل الحية أو العقرب على قول السرخسي ( وهذا ) أي الكراهة المذكورة ( إذا وقف بعد كل خطوة ) أو بعد كل خطوتين ( وإن لم يقف ) بل خطا ثلاث خطوات متواليات ( تفسد صلاته ) لأنه عمل كثير ( إذا كان ) ذلك ( بغير عذر ) أما إذا كان بعذر فلا تفسدها فالحاصل أن المشي إذا كان بعذر لا يفسد ولا يكره وإن كان بغير عذر فإن كان ثلاث خطوات متواليات يفسد وإلا يكره ولا يفسد (الحلبى الكبير ص 353 سهيل اكاديمى)
