Question: Is it permissible to tan oneself using a tanning machine?
Answer: assalamu alaykum wa rahmatullah,
As long as the tanning does not entail any public exposure of the awra or harm to the body then it would be permissible to use it. But one has to seriously take the health risks of using a tanning-machine into account before using it.
Additionally, one should consider what the purpose of tanning is. A wrong intention, like doing it to attract attention from the opposite gender, would make it impermissible.
