What is the way of traditional learning?

Answer:
In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful

Walaikum assalam wa rahmatullah,

The goal of Islamic knowledge is to gain the knowledge required fulfill our duty as servants of Allah, individually and as a society, and to gain a means of gaining Allah’s pleasure, love and closeness.

The way traditional learning takes place inculcates certain essential Islamic values, such as patience, attentiveness, calmness, and so on… this is very different from the ‘hop around’ approach of many modern learning methodologies.

Traditional learning seeks:

a) sukun

inwardly: calm and stillness, and outwardly: the resulting serenity [sakina] and dignity [waqar])

b) and safa’ (clarity, purity, and limpidity).

And Allah knows best.

Wassalam,
Faraz Rabbani
