Madhi and cleaning

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Qibla.com

Answered by Shaykh Faraz Rabbani

I have difficulty preventing myself from excreting madhi. Thus it gets on my clothes. I understand that it is merely sufficient enough to clean the penis and the part of the underpants that the madhi has gotten on. What if the madhi has dried up? It could have gotten on other parts of my lower private areas besides the penis that will no longer be visible. What should I do then? What is the proper way of cleaning it off the underpants?

Answer:
In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful

Walaikum assalam wa rahmatullah,

I pray this finds you in the best of health and spirits.

You are only responsible to clean the places you are reasonably sure or certain that the madhy has reached–based on being able to see its actual traces. As for doubts or possibilities, one ignores them. [ Shurunbulali, Maraqi al-Falah; al-Ashbah]

One cleans the actual traces by washing. This is only obligatory when they are beyond the extent of 5 cm in diameter (in total). When less than this, it is recommended to remove the filth.
