The Status of One with Faith, but No Actions

Answer:
In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful

Wa Alaykum Assalam wa Rahmatullah wa Barakatuhu,

In the Name of Allah, Most Merciful & Compassionate

Faith (iman) is defined by Sunni scholarship as, “Confirming everything that the Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him and give him peace) came with that is necessarily known to be of faith.” [Bajuri, Tuhfat al-Murid `ala Jawharat al-Tawhid]

‘Confirming’ (tasdiq) means believing in and submitting to with one believes in. [ibid.]

As for actions, they are not a condition of the validity of faith—thus, the one who doesn’t pray (but believes prayer is obligatory) is not a disbeliever.

However, actions are a condition for the perfection of faith—the perfection and strength of one’s faith is consonant to the degree that one actually acts on the guidance that the Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him and give him peace) came with. [Sawi, Sharh Jawharat al-Tawhid]

And Allah alone gives success.

Faraz.
