Sharia Guidelines for Hair Dye Usage: Permissible or Prohibited?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Muftionline.co.za

Q: Is it permissible to use hair dyes available in market in various shades? What are the instructions in Sharia regarding dying of hair? Please provide full details.

Bismillaah

A: Black dye has been prohibited in the Ahaadith. Apart from black dye, the colours that are used by Muslims are permissible provided the dye is porous and there is no haraam and impure ingredient contained in it.

And Allah Ta’ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
