Trophy and Rifle Hunting in Islam: A Permissibility Study

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Muftionline.co.za

Q: Can I please have a detailed answer with references regarding “Is trophy Hunting permissible” ” and hunting with rifles”. I’m a student of Deen that’s why I request references. I need it as part of my research.

Bismillaah

A: If the hunting is done just for sports and just for trophy hunting then this is impermissible. Refer to Muslim Shareef.

The instrument that is used for hunting has to be sharp and it should have a piercing effect. If it is not a sharp object and it is just used for hunting purposes then the hunted animal will not be permissible.

And Allah Ta’ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
